What to wear for Parkour during summer

A recurring question that pops up among Parkour and Free Running practitioners is what to wear for Parkour training. Parkour clothes are typically defined by loose fitting sports apparel (sweat pants, hooded sweatshirts, beanies, etc) of generic branding and low price or seemingly low price. These can be coupled with urban accessories like headphones or colorful sneakers.

Usually, traceurs wear clothes that allow the most freedom of movement and that will require little money to replace should the items became worn or dirty. In cold weather, reason dictates many layers and long pants, whereas in warm weather, the look is often tank tops or even shirtless, but often retaining long pants like sweats or cargos to safe guard shins and knees from rough pavement and walls.

In the hot season, the best choice for apparel is a cotton T-shirt that fits you comfortably, not to constrain your movement, and a pair of pants that will help your lower body ventilate and safeguard you from shin injuries.

The pants need to be from a thin and comfortable material that will also not hinder your movement.

What to wear for Parkour during winter


Layering is the word of the day. During intense workouts you will want to have a sleeveless jacket and some sort of zipper jacket for your upper body, that you can quickly take off or unzip during training. You will warm up up and cool down many times during training in the cold season so you will need to have a few layers of clothes that you can take off and put on, according to your state.

The pants need to be thicker than those for summer, or just use layering again and have another pair underneath if it’s really cold, or you’re planning on tricking in the snow. That way, if the exterior gets wet, you will still be dry and cozy on the inside.

Why do Free runners wear baggy pants?

You might also notice that Traceurs and Free Runners usually wear baggy joggers in their videos. These types of pants help the air move to your lower body and accentuate the sensation of flow. They will also mask small landing mistakes or bent knees during jumps. They are a good option for the comfort they provide and range of movement they offer.

There are many backpacks that now brand themselves as “Designed for Parkour”, like the FastBreak Parkour pack. But you can find a great one near you, if you just follow these guidelines.

The ideal parkour backpack should:

  • be made from light materials
  • have a small and narrow frame
  • have a waist strap

Wristbands for Parkour


Another useful thing you should carry around is a pair of wristbands. They help keep your wrists rigid and help avoid scratches you might get on the inside of your wrists from wall-runs and climb-ups. Any type is suitable, as long as it’s not too tight so it hinders your wrist movement or stops circulation of the blood in the hands.

    Well, I don’t see much range of motion in the featured picture precisely.

    I think they provide the same range as the normal sports wear.
