Hirshhorn Gallery in Washington DC launched a new exhibition in their Black Box series that resembles something out of Devil’s Playground. Black Box Democracia is a 20 minute video presentation featuring a group of Free runners practicing their skills in a Madrid Cemetery.
According to their site, DEMOCRACIA is a Madrid-based artist collective formed by Pablo España and Iván López, and is known for socio-political work that includes performance, public engagement actions, printed books and video installations.
I am not sure what the exhibition is about or what it should mean, but running over the graves of others sure seems like a controversial way to make a point. Even though the editing of Democracia is stunning and the movements are great, I have mixed feelings about this.
